TV Installation Greenbank

Greenbank is full of homes only a year or two old — Everleigh, the acreage blocks off Teviot Road, and the newer pockets out toward New Beith. A brand-new house is the easiest place in the world to get a TV wall right, and the easiest place to make a mess you then have to live with. Most of the TV installation Greenbank work we do out here is on fresh plasterboard nobody has opened yet. These are the four questions new-build owners ask us most.

Can you hide the cables in a brand-new wall?

Usually, yes. In plasterboard over a timber or steel frame there is normally room in the cavity to drop a concealed conduit from the mount down behind the cabinet, so the HDMI and power leads never show. It gets harder on rendered blockwork or where a stud, a noggin or ducting sits in the way. We scan before anything is cut, and if the cavity isn't clear we'll say so and offer a slim surface conduit painted to match rather than open your new wall twice.

Will mounting the TV void my builder's warranty?

That is a question for your builder, not for us — every contract is written differently, and defect cover during the maintenance period is between you and them. Read your handover documents, and if you're unsure, an email to your site supervisor before we come out costs nothing. What we can tell you is how we work: fixings into structure rather than plasterboard alone, no more holes than the job needs, cuts kept small and tidy, and a record of exactly what was done and where so you can show it at a defect inspection.

Where should the TV go in an open-plan living room?

This is where new Greenbank homes catch people out. The wall that looks obvious on the floor plan is often the one taking afternoon glare off the western sliders, or the one you end up watching at a sharp angle from the kitchen bench. Before anything is drilled we'll sit where you actually sit, set the height against your eye line from the lounge — lower than most people expect — and look at where the power and data points were roughed in. If the nearest outlet is two metres off, that shapes the plan more than anything else.

Do you mount above fireplaces or in media nooks?

Both, with one caveat. A media nook is straightforward provided it's genuinely deep and wide enough for the bracket and the screen's tilt — plenty are built to a plan drawing rather than to a real television, so measure before you buy. Above a fireplace we'll happily do it, but we'll be straight with you about the viewing height and the heat, and we'd normally suggest a tilting or pull-down bracket over a fixed plate.
